Bennett Racing’s 5yo gelding Stay Silent again showed incredible grit when leading throughout at Sandown on Saturday.
Apprentice Jabez Johnstone again defied the wide barrier pushing the gelding hard to cross over and working his way to the front. From there Jabez controlled the mid race tempo giving Stay Silent a bit of a breather mid race before he started ramping it up to the 400m and then ran home in 23.72s the last 400m. They all had their chance to run him down but he was too tough and actually kicked away on the line. Castle On High looked to run him down and definitely drew level, possibly heading him, but Stay Silent loves a dog fight, keeps on digging and finding reserves and that will to win.
Stay Silent really has turned the corner this prep and after going winless in 8 starts for his previous stable, the Maher Team certainly have found the key to him.
A terrific training performance again by the powerful Ciaron Maher Stable as this was Stay Silents 13th run this prep which started Jan 10th. It was the gelding’s 5th win this prep with the last month being incredible – 3 Metro wins in 24 days (4 runs from July 22nd to Aug 22nd) and rising from a Midweek BM66 to a Saturday Class BM84 and over $200K in prizemoney.

It’s hard to keep writing superlatives about how well this son of Deep Field is going very deep into a long prep. He is now a three time Metro Winner and Stakes Placed at 2. The win took Stay Silent’s overall record to 25 starts, 6 – 3 – 3 $294,805
Stay Silent was a 145k purchase at the 2022 Magic Millions Sale from the Newgate Farm draft. He is the best of 2 winners for the American import Paulita. A winner of two Listed races, Paulita is a daughter of Champion siree Scat Daddy ( sire of Justify etc ) out of the 6 time stakes winner Blind Date who counted the Gr3 Virginian Oaks amongst her victories. Stay Silent is from a good International Black type family and has always shown the potential to run further with his first 3 dams all being stakeswinners and winning out to 1800m.
