Bennett Racing gelding Chambers Bay returned to form with a runaway win at Gawler on Thursday. The 4yo who was having his 2nd run back after a freshen up, showed with his last start 3rd placing at Morphettville he was back on track after a fruitless last campaign. Chambers Bay jumped well from the wide barrier and as expected, the speed was on early and Kayla got into the 3 wide line with cover. The big boy travelled well throughout and was well back nearing the turn when he commenced his run around the field. Pulling out wide, he tracked down the very outside and made light of the Draw. In a witheringly finish he rounded them up with 200m to go and careered away to a 1.5 Len win. His late speed, as indicated above was very good, 2nd fastest of the meeting. This was a very good win by Chambers Bay and showed being ridden back and coming with one run may mean he has further scope to improve even further.
Chambers Bay took his record to 13 starts-2 wins & 2 3rds and prizemoney of $44,000. He was a 22k purchase from the 2021 Magic Millions Sale from the draft of Valiant Stud. Chambers Bay is a ½ brother to the dual Gr1 winner Platelet, who amongst her 5 stakes wins were the Gr1 Goodwood Hcp & Gr1 Sangster Stks. He is the 8th winner from the Dracula mare Bloodline. This is an old Woodlands family which goes back to the good Group winning sprinter Hockney.
Congratulations to all owners in Chambers Bay and a terrific training effort by Tommy Stokes to get the big boy back on track.
