Bennett Racing 4yo Zoupurring did it tough but was too strong winning at Geelong on Friday. After a slightly disappointing run 1st up the son of Zoustar bounced back under a cool ride from Jye McNeil. The very attractive 4yo gelding looked sensational in the mounting yard before the race with his dark coat glistening in the sun and certainly lived up to those looks at the finish.
Jumping well, Zoupurring pushed forward from the wide barrier and riding to instructions, Jye kept the gelding out 3 wide throughout the race. On the soft 7 track Zoupurring didn’t look overly comfortable but moved up on the home turn to take over half way down the straight and then fight off all challengers close to the line. Stepping out to the 1230m, Zoupurring ran a slick 1.13.6 sec on the shifty surface winning eventually by 0.5 Len. It was Jye McNeil’s 3rd win on the 4yo and judging by the toughness of the effort Jye said he was keen to stay on the horse.
A metropolitan winner at Sandown as a 3yo, Zoupurring took his overall record to 13 starts, 3 – 2 – 2 $105,465. He was a 100k purchase from the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. Sold as agent for breeders tara Farm by Rosemont Stud, Zoupurring is a son of Champion Sire Zoustar from the Flying Spur mare Tara’s Spur. He is bred on the exact same Zoustar / Flying Spur cross as Bennett Racing flag bearer The Astrologist.
Congratulations to all owners in Zoupurring and a terrific training effort by Leon & Troy Corstens and their Tam for a great job they have done with Zoupurring finishing top3 in 7 of his 13 starts.
