Well bred Bennett Racing 4yo mare Tamala Rose defied a betting drift when she produced a powerful finish to win at Ballarat. The daughter of Group 1 winner Veight’s sire Grunt was having just her 2nd start after a debut 4th on the same track. Under leading jockey Declan Bates, Tamala Rose jumped well and was always well positioned behind the leaders. Declan had the 4yo in a really good rhythm and once they straightened for home she soon put the sword to the leader who kicked. When Tamala Rose let down she eventually won running away to score easily. The way that she won suggests she will certainly appreciate further and like a lot of Grunt progeny she will get better with age. Tamala Rose has always been liked by the Team at Maher Racing and looks like she should develop into a very handy mare. She took her career to 2 starts, 1 – 0 – 0 $16,065.
Tamala Rose was purchased at the 2022 MM Adelaide Yearling Sale from the Goodwood Farm, Murrurundi Draft for $62,000. Bennett Racing struck gold before buying from Kerry Tibbey’s farm, having purchased $2.8mil earner The Astrologist from her Magic Millions Gold Coast Draft a few years ago. Tamala Rose is the 7th winner from 9 runners for the Thorn Park mare Te Akau Rose. A Group 3 winner at 2 and multiple Gr3 & listed placed during her racing career, Te Akau Rose is also the dam of Stakesplaced Wassergeist and Shapita – dam of Listed Canberra Guineas placed Thunderlips. Another daughter of Te Akau Rose in Sombreuil produced one of last seasons top NZ 2yo fillies Damask Rose runner up in the Listed Karaka Millions. A daughter of the Listed winning 2yo Straussbridge, Te Akau Rose is a ½ sister to Gr3 placed Alberton Princess – dam of Group 1 Doncaster Hcp winner & promising young sire Brutal. She is a ½ sister to Alberton Rose – dam of top 2yo Group 3 winner Cavalry Rose. This is a very active family with many females breeding on.
Congratulations to all owners in Tamala Rose and a big thankyou to Ciaron Maher and all his Teams for presenting the mare to win in such great order.
