Bennett Racing import Fawkner Park (IRE) bounced back with a tough win in the 750k Rosehill Gold Cup Gr3 on Saturday at Rosehill. The import was coming off a close up 5th placing in the Gr3 Craven Plate at Randwick the previous Saturday after an aborted Melbourne spring campaign where he was a long time favourite for the Gr1 Caulfield Cup.

With regular rider Tyler Schiller up, Fawkner Park jumped ok but was soon after drifting back. Fawkner Park looked comfortable during throughout the race but when Tyler realised the import was going to be set a task, he set him alight around the field. Coming to the home turn Fawkner Park was in full flight and soon took over the lead, racing away. Into the straight and down the running, the early move started to take its toll as his lead was reduced but the post was coming quicker and Fawkner Park showed great courage and toughness to hang on eventually winning by a neck.

Such determination was shown by the horse and the way Tyler saw things unfolding in front of him too take the initiative and act so swiftly, really made the win much sweeter. A terrific training effort by Annabel Rob and their Team to get the import back on track and winning.

Fawkner Park had come down to Melbourne for the spring Carnival after his brilliant Qld carnival which netted a win in the 1.2mil QE22 at Eagle Farm and an unlucky head head 3rd in the Gr1 Doomben Cup. Saturdays win in the Gr3 Rosehill Gold Cup was Fawkner Park’s 4th stakes success following on from his Gr2 1.2mil QE22, Listed Albury Gold Cup and Listed Wagga Gold Cup wins.

An inglorious first up run in the Gr1 Underwood Stks had followed a very good closing trial at Caulfield. Closer vet examinations and xrays on the horse revealed back plus hamstring issues which seemed to be aggravated the more he went our anti clock wise way and forced the Team to re-access re-group and send the horse back to Sydney. In bringing up his 8th Australian win Fawkner Park took his overall record to 20 starts – 9 – 1 – 2 $1,761,202 .

Fawkner Park was a 120k gns purchase for Bennett Racing Neasham Racing and Stuart Boman Blandford Bldstk at the 2022 Tattersalls HIT Training Sale and is a 1/2 brother to Gr2 Herbert Power winner Saracen Knight.

Congratulations to all owners on Fawkner Park’s thrilling win and thankyou to Annabel Neasham Rob Archibald and their Team for a superb training effort.
