Bennett Racing 6yo Dayan Star returned to form at Hobart on Sunday with a strong win after a 71 day freshen up. The gelding hadn’t raced since the 9th November when he was an uncharacteristic 8 Len 7th over 1430m at Hobart. Trainer Imogen Miller explained that performance was put down to a small issue which necessitated a break.
Allotted top weight at 59kg apprentice Lauryn Bingley claim bought the gelding’s weight down to 57kg for the 1430m event and despite the good barrier once again he was very hardy away. Lauryn didn’t panic and after driving him along, settled him towards the rear of the field. Keeping in touch throughout although well back, she made her move into the 3 wide position down the side and she tracked him up wide towards the turn. Making the turn widest of all, Lauryn set Dayan Star alight and he exploded down the down to win easily by 2.3 Len. A really terrific effort by Imogen and her Team to get the gelding back winning so impressively and a great ride by the young apprentice Lauryn Bingley who didn’t panic after the sluggish getaway.
It has proved to be a good move to re-locate Dayan Star to Tasmania not only for the cheaper training rates but the horse has really found good form and from 12 starts in Tasmania now has 3 wins, 2 x 2nds, 3 3rds and 3 x 4ths missing a top 4 finish only once and netting over $70250 in prizemoney to boot.
The win took Dayan Star’s overall career to 25 starts, 4 – 6 – 4 $134,580. He was a 135k purchase from his breeders Yarramalong Park, Kalbar, Qld from the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale. He is a son of Champion Sire Zoustar from the very good stakes mare Maracoola ( Freeze).
Congratulations to all owners in Dayan Star and a special thankyou to Imogen Miller and her Team on another great win by Dayan Star in Tasmania.
