Bennett Racing’s love affair with stallion Written Tycoon continued on Saturday when the very talented Written Tycoon 2yo filly Military Tycoon did a demolition job on her rivals in the Gr3 Ottawa Stks at Flemington on Saturday.

The filly resuming from a disappointing debut run in the spring, was well backed and simply toyed with her rivals down the 1000m straight course at Flemington. Taken to the front after jumping cleanly the highly strung filly came under Thomas Stockdale well and led the field throughout the whole race. At the 200m Thomas simply released the brakes and the filly extended like a good horse kicking away from her rivals to score a dominant two length win over last start Adelaide stakes-winner Gin Spirit in slick time.

Both Thomas and Ciaron Maher were full of praise for the filly who isn’t the easiest filly to ride. Thomas has spent a lot of time with the filly in trying to settle her down and although she did get quite agitated in the mounting yard, the filly went to the start settled enough led by a pony.

The filly has always displayed very good talent and may head up to Sydney for a tilt at the Gr1 Golden Slipper or the Gr2 Percy Sykes 1200m.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from Emirates Park (as agent for Merricks Station ) for Bennett Racing, Military Tycoon is the best of three winners from stakes-winning Universal Ruler mare Military Reign.

As a Gr3 winning 2yo filly Military Tycoon has become quite a valuable filly. Merricks Station sold a yearling filly by The Autumn Sun from Military Reign at Inglis Premier last year for $120,000 to Simon Zahra Racing and the mare has a colt to follow by So You think and was covered by Alabama Express last spring.

Military Tycoon is the 73rd stakes-winner for Written Tycoon. Earlier in the week former Bennett Racing flag-bearing Written Tycoon stallion Southport Tycoon was announced for Widden Stud Victoria.

Congratulations to all owners in Military Tycoon and a big thankyou to Ciaron Maher and his Teams for the fantastic job they have done with the filly
