A brilliant 2 3/4 Len win of sustained frontrunning speed by Colorado Cruz at Colac Saturday. The 3yo Nicconi 1/2 sister to Bennett Racings Defiant Diva was having her 3rd start for Danny O’Brien after a 3rd and 2nd behind smart horses at her previous two runs. The filly seems to be really enjoy the beach life at Barwon Heads and although still an immature type the future certainly looks bright for her.
The filly jumped beautifully under Liam Riordan pinging the gates clear by a length and Liam had no hesitation taking her to a clear lead. Challenged a couple of times in the run, the filly showed sustained speed throughout, kicking clear on straightening to win untouched. Her time for the 1200m was over a second faster than the other Maiden and over 1/2 second faster than the BM58 horses.
A real credit to Danny and his Team who have all put a lot of time and work into the filly settling her down. Although Colorado Cruz did over race in patches she did come back under Liam and was very strong to the line.
Naturally Danny was very pleased with the fillys effort and will see how she pulls up before deciding where to next. The win took the fillys earning to over 38k with 23k coming from yesterday’s win which included a very nice VOBIS bonus.
An 80k purchase from Magic Millions Adelaide she is a 1/2 sister to the aforementioned Defiant Diva who is a multiple metropolitan winner for Bennett Racing and trained by Malua Racing.
Magic Millions Adelaide has been a happy hunting year ground for Bennett Racing with stakeswinning She Shao Fly, metro winners Apache Star & Defiant Diva along with the smart filly Too Easy Sis all being secured from the Sale.
Congratulations to all owners in Colorado Cruz, many who race her sister Defiant Diva, on her thrilling win and hopefully the start of a great career.
Thanks also to Danny O’Brien and his Team for all their hard work with the filly.
