Bennett Racing 3yo filly Lady Cederberg resumed at Cranbourne on Friday night with an emphatic win. Placed twice in 3 starts in her 1st preparation, Lady Cederberg was resuming over the 1000m after a couple of very nice trials. The stable expected a nice run with improvement to come.
Always a bit of a spirited filly, Lady Cederberg did put on a bit of a show in the mounting yard but once Luke was on she went around to the barriers without incident.
After jumping ok Luke Currie allowed the filly to drift back but soon had her in a 3 wide run with cover. They went at a good clip in front and down the side Lady Cederberg was still beyond mid field. Before the turn Luke unleashed her and she was pushed 5 wide around the turn. The filly used the camber around the turn well and once balanced up she soon set out to reel in the leader. Hitting the front soon after she powered away and was strongest on the line in very good time for the night.
What a terrific win by this tough and talented little filly by Press
Statement. She showed good ability in her 1st prep but has really come on after a
break and went to a new level ere winning strongly in the highest rating race she has
been in. She has had 4 starts now for a 1st/2nd/3rd and 4th.
Interestingly, her 2 runs on turf (other 2 on Synthetic) have resulted in a win and a ½
head 2nd to the smart Imapagethreegirl, so her grass form is very solid.
Luke Currie thought she might be a bit limited because of her size but I don’t think he
has factored in er toughness and will to win. I think in the right grade, especially
against 3yo fillies, se can go on and possibly be competitive in midweek metro class.

Lady Cederberg is a daughter of Hinchinbrook’s Gr1 winning 2yo Press Statement sire of top class mare Roots etc. She is daughter 1000m debut winner Rooibos Deluxe who in turn was sired by South African Gr1 winning 2yo Delargo Deluxe a son of Champion sire Encosta De Lago. A real “Woodlands” family Rooibos Deluxe is a ½ sister to the former smart stayer Magic Chai winner of the Wellington Cup NZ. Magic Chai is a ½ sister to the wonderful Gr1 winning filly Neroli.
Lady Cederberg was a Bennett Racing purchase from the same breeders as former smart sprinting filly Kalkarni Royale.
A terrific training performance by the Hayes Brothers to have the filly ready to win quite impressively and congratulations to all owners Lady Cederberg looks to have pretty good ability.
