A terrific fighting win to Bennett Racing’s Madame Meteor at Kyneton on Saturday. The Leon & Troy Corstens 3yo filly was having her 4th start and stepped up in distance to 1450m. After jumping well jockey Jack Hill sent the filly outside the leader and she soon relaxed and got into a good rhythm. The filly really settled well outside the leader and was poised to pounce as they turned for home. Jack said when he let the filly down she did have a think about it but she always looked like she would win even though the leader kicked hard. A really nice effort by the filly and she was very strong in the end and through the line.

Madame Meteor has been a work in progress for Leon and his Team at Geelong. She had tended to over race in her first couple of starts and had the blinkers applied as well. At Kyneton the blinkers were off and the filly settled quite well.

Leon will decide whether to send her off for a break as she has been in a long time and made her debut back in early February. Jack Hill has ridden the filly in all her starts and was full of praise for the filly especially how far she has come in this prep.

A daughter of Zoustar, Madame Meteor was a 90k purchase from the 2021 Magic Millions from the Rothwell Park draft who bred the filly and stayed in the ownership. The filly becomes Bennett Racing’s 6th winner by Zoustar from only 7 runners which of course includes 2.8mil earner The Astrologist, Gr3 Vanity winner Zou Dancer & stakesplaced Zou Sensation. Incidentally all 6 of the Zoustar winners have all been trained by Malua Racing.

Madame Meteor comes from a huge International family with over 20 stakeswinners in the first four removes. She is the 1st foal of the stakesplaced American mare My Dinah Lee who is a daughter to Gr1 winning sire Discreetly Mine. My Dinah Lee’s 3rd dam is a ½ sister to Champion racehorse and sire A P Indy. This is also the family of 4 time Gr1 winner Lemon Drop Kid, 3 time Group 1 winner Wolfhound and Preakness Stks & 3 time Gr1 winner  Summer Squall. The family has also been well represented in Australia with Statue Of Liberty ( sire of Gr1 winner Hay List & 10 other stakeswinners)), Spectacular Spy ( sire of 10 stakeswinners), Foxhound ( 4 stakeswinners), Bite The Bullet ( sire of Gr1 winner Sniper’s Bullet & 18 other stakeswinners) and Eavesdropper all standing in Australia at some time.

Congratulations to all owners and thankyou to Malua racing.
