Bennett Racing 3yo finally got it all right when he powered home down the outside to win with plenty in hand at Ballarat Syn on Friday. Having his 7th start the son of Pierro had placed at his previous 2 starts at Ballarat on the turf and synthetic. Matthew Cartwright moved the gelding into the field after a slow start but the 3yo drifted back midfield during the running. He had Peerless Lad travelling well though and as the field came towards the turn the gelding was making his run widest around the field. The leader slipped away but you could see the dark flash continuing to build and with 200m to go he moved up and past the leader eventually running away.A strong performance by the 3yo who showed a great turn of foot and determination to get the win.
Hopefully now he has hit the line he will continue to progress like a lot of the Pierro breed and live up to his very good pedigree. Peerless Lad’s overall record now stands at 7 starts, 1 – 1 – 2 $32,525.
Peerless Lad was a $200,000 at the 2022 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the Newgate Farm Draft. He is a son of Champion 2yo & 3yo Pierro who is emerging as a serious sire. His dam Sprightly Lass is a stakeswinning daughter of multiple Champion Sire Snitzel. A winner on the Gr3 DC McKay Stks Sprightly Lass was a brilliant winner of 6 of her only 8 starts and a sister to the Listed winner Le Cordon Blue. The siblings are from the Listed winner Ultimate Fever.
Congratulations to all owners in Peerless Lad and a terrific effort from Ciaron Maher and his Team.
