Bennett Racing 3yo Purple Streak bounced back from his last start failure at Caulfield with a strong dominant at Pakenham on Thursday night. Unlike his previous start, where Jamie Melham elected to pull the gelding back and take a sit, Ben Allen got the 3yo sharply out of the barriers and after an initial bump with another runner, he proceeded to lead the lead field out of the chute. Plotting a wide path coming to the turn, Ben came over to the rails and on straightening elected to take the gelding out wide in the run home. The 3yo put a couple of lengths on his rivals very quickly and Ben simply kept him going to the line to win easily.
The Team had done a bit of work with the 3yo applying head gear – cross over nose band, new bit etc and Purple Streak ran quite tractably throughout which was pleasing.
Purple Streak ran good sectionals considering he was testing a Heavy 8 for the first time and although he seemed to handle it, Ben Allen said he wasnt that comfortable in the going.
Purple Streak is an exciting young galloper and seems to be in a good space now. The Team will decide where he goes to next and he is certainly seems to have inherited some of his ¾ brother The Astrologist’s ability.
The win took Purple Streaks’ overall record to 3 starts, 2 – 0 – 0 $66,000. A Super VOBIS Silver qualified horse, Purple Streak can now chase some of the lucrative bonuses on offer for the rest of his 3yo year.

A homebred for Shadwell Farm ( Phil, Sue & Ric Wells) and Nathan Bennett and he was purchased as a Weanling for $80K at the Great Southern Sale by Bennett Racing.
Purple Streak is a lovely type of gelding, well made, strong and a terrific mover.
Purposely bred as his 2yo metropolitan winning dam is a ¾ sister to Aquada The Astrologists dam. A son of the good siring son of Zoustar in Zousain, Purple Streak is in fact a ¾ brother in blood to The Astrologist ( by Zoustar). Although Purple Steak may not have The Astrologist’s big frame or physique he certainly has inherited some of the big boy’s ability.
He has been given time and here he is on debut absolutely demolishing this field for his delighted owners.

Congratulations to all owners and thankyou to Malua Racing.
