Bennett Racing 3yo Magnaspin delivered on the potential he has always shown with a dominating 2.5 Len win over 2050m at Moonee Valley on Saturday. Ridden by Craig Williams Magnaspin jumped well and Craig had no hesitation taking him to the lead. Setting a good pace in front Craig kept the big boy rolling along and down the side had most off the bit chasing. Rounding for home he kicked clear and eased down towards the win for an easy win. This was a brilliant front running ride by Craig – he managed to get Magnaspin to relax enough in front that he could get into a solid rhythm and use that big long loping stride to full effect.
You don’t give top jockeys instructions and Craig had ridden Magnaspin earlier in his career, in fact Craig first suggested that a mile or further would see the horse at his best. He said afterwards he had no hesitation of taking him to the front and rolling along.
Stakes placed in the Listed Gibson Carmichael Stks as a 2yo Magnaspin did break his maiden in November at Geelong but after 2 ok runs in town , the horse was spelled and resumed with a solid effort running 3rd at Caulfield 1st up in June. Stretched out to 1700m at Flemington for his next run, he again was solid running 3rd again.
Saturday’s win took the geldings record to 12 starts 2 wins 3 2nds 3 3rds with earnings over 272k. As a VOBIS Gold horse he has won over 67k in bonuses incl a 30k sales voucher.
A 60k Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale purchase Magnaspin was sought out from the Maluka Tbs Draft from good vendors Luke & Mags Anderson. A gangly gawky yearling it was on Luke & Mags assurance of the horses improvement throughout the yearling prep which gave us the confidence to punt the colt. A son of Leading winner producing Victorian Sire Magnus, Magnaspin is a 3/4 brother in blood to the very good Gr3 winner and 630k earner Magnapal. This is also the family of 1.5mil earner Le Chef and 600k earner Le Cap. A solid great winning family with great form out to 2000m +.
A terrific training effort by Malua Racing and a brilliant well rated front running ride by Craig Williams.
Congratulations to all owners in this very promising young stayer.
Magnaspin is the latest of the 2021 Yearling Sale purchases to win in town behind Zou Sensation, Watadeel, Street Delight and Zoupurring.
