Facing the starter for only his 2nd time, Bennett Racing 3yo Stay Humble won as he liked at Murtoa on Saturday. The newly gelded son of Deep Field, made a creditable debut in May at Pakenham but it was decided to geld the big imposing 3yo.
At Murtoa, and starting at very short odds, noted frontrunning rider Linda Meech jumped the big boy out of the barriers running. Not wanting to use him up too much over the 1100m, Linda elected to take a sit outside the leader and from there she dictated the race. Turning for home, she angled out Stay Humble who put the race to bed in a matter of strides to go on and record an impressive victory in good time.
How far on this boy goes from here is speculative but the impressive manner that he jumped out of the gates, travelled well under Linda and was able to dictate and control the race from the onset was very good to see.
The decision to geld him has made him a racehorse of which he was bought for and judging by the ease of the win there should be many more to come.
A well bred yearling Stay Humble was a 230k purchase from the 2023 Magic Millions Sale from the highly respected breeders Torryburn Stud. He is a son of the very successful sire Deep Field, who has not only enjoyed great success here but also abroad in Hong Kong where he has been leading Sire a few times. Unfortunately Deep Field was withdrawn from service due to going sterile a couple of years ago. Stay Humble is full brother to the good class galloper Three Beans – Divine Regulus (H.K.) 3d MVRC Red Anchor S., Gr.3. They are sons of the Fastnet Rock mare Mrs Boxall who is a ½ sister to 2 time Listed winner Miss Gai Flyer, MRC Kevin Hayes S., Listed, MVRC Typhoon Tracy S., Listed etc. Their dam was a ½ sister to the very smart Very Droll winner of the VRC Vanity S., Listed, and dam of the Champion 2YO & 3YO filly in Australia in 2000-01 & 2001-02 Ha Ha winner of STC Golden Slipper S., Group 1, AJC Flight S., Group 1, Apollo S., Group 2, Silver Shadow S., Group 2, STC Tea Rose S., Group 2 etc and Dry Humour SCTC Glasshouse H., Listed etc. Family members incl Southern Speed 1st Group 1 Caulfield Cup, Go Indy Go Group 1 Champagne Stks and Gr1 Golden Slipper & Campion Sire Rorys Jester.
