Bennett Racing’s lightly raced 5yo Zoupurring put his best foot forward when a strong winner at Pakenham on Thursday night. Third up Zoupurring was dropping back in grade to a BM64 over 1400m.

Jye McNeil has a real affinity with the gelding and had ridden the son of Zoustar in all 3 of his previous wins and again took the reins. He positioned him beautifully stalking the pace in a slowly run race and by having him right behind the lead, Jye was able to manoeuvre him to the right spot so he could start his sprint to the line. When he balanced him up on straightening, Zoupurring took a few strides to get going but the race was over by the 200m mark and he held a ½ Len margin on the line.

They went 800-400m 2.1lens better than standard and then 3.78lens better again from the 400m to home. This meant they went 3lens better than standard overall. 1400m really is in his sweet zone. The overall time of 1m24.98s was quicker than the other 1400m race run in 1m25.11s.

A metropolitan winner at Sandown as a 3yo, Zoupurring took his overall record to 20 starts, 4 – 3 – 4 $152,865. He was a 100k purchase from the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. Sold as agent for breeders tara Farm by Rosemont Stud, Zoupurring is a son of Champion Sire Zoustar from the Flying Spur mare Tara’s Spur. He is bred on the exact same Zoustar / Flying Spur cross as Bennett Racing flag bearer The Astrologist.

Congratulations to all owners in Zoupurring and a terrific training effort by Malua Racing Team.
