Bennett Racing 4yo Extreme Diamond was a terrific winner 1st up from a break and very well placed by the Maher Stable in a BM66 at Goulburn on Thursday. The gelding jumped slowly away but Louise Day soon had him travelling well back in 2nd last position. Around the turn she tracked Extreme Diamond up behind the field but had nowhere to go. On straightening Louise desperately tried to find a way out and at the 250m she pushed him out through a gap and the gelding raced away to win easily. Two trials into this had him ready to perform and the drop in grade and lack of quality opposition gave him his chance to get back to winning and it did.
What made this win more meritorious was the fact they went quite slowly the first 500m before zipping home the last 600m in 34.78s which was by far the quickest last 600m of the entire meeting.
The win took Extreme Diamonds overall career to 7 starts, 2 – 0 – 0 $38,970. This was a terrific confidence boosting win for this talented son of Extreme Choice who to date had not delivered on the promise he had shown as a youngster. He has finally fully developed into a magnificent horse – big and strong and looks ready to really go on with it now and make an impact. Talented, strong and now knows how to win.
