Exciting Bennett racing 3yo filly Fireball Miss broke her maiden at start number 2 with a tough strong win at Rosehill last week.
After a pleasing effort 1st up at 1200m Fireball Miss looked very well placed moving up in distance to 1500m in this rich $100K Super Maiden at Rosehill. The track was looking very leaderish after 2 races so that was going to make it harder as she settled midfield as expected.
Zac Lloyd made sure he got her moving at the 600m when back in 6th. He made a
solid burst to hit the front before the 200m and then asked her to be tough and see it
out. She was very tough and managed to hold the finish of Almaaz despite running
around a bit in the straight. James MacDonald fired in a protest that was dismissed –
interesting he was suspended for weighing in 1kg overweight.
What a good ride by Zac Lloyd putting the Filly into the race and giving her a chance
to overcome the track bias to leaders. You can see above she was 6th at the 600m
before starting her run. No other winner on the day came from 6th or further back and
4 of the 7 winners led all the way. Her overall time of 1m30.75s was significantly
quicker than the other 1500m race – a BM72 run in 1m31.40s – some 0.65s faster
which is about 4 lens.
The amazing similarity between this start to Fireball Miss’ career and that of
Snitzanova was uncanny. Both ran 5th on debut in Sydney before both winning a
Super Maiden at start 2 – both ridden by Zac Lloyd. Snitzanova then won a Stakes
Race at Start 3 – here’s hoping history repeats with Fireball Miss.
Summary: Fantastic effort to win by Fireball Miss. She did it the hard way and
certainly showed a lot of toughness to get to the line 1st. As a ½ sister to Derby
Winner Feminille, you’d expect she would be even better suited over further.
She has certainly grown and started to fill out – an what a smart move by Nathan
and Joh to tip her out last prep as she wasn’t quite ready. That extra time has paid
dividends with a $100K Maiden win.
Fireball Miss becomes the 3rd Bennett Racing 3yo to break their Maiden in the last 8
days. She won at start 2, Purple Streak on debut and Fully Justified at start 3.
All 3 of them needed time to mature – we not pushed – and have delivered early in
their career. You’d imaging all 3 have more to come – touch wood!
These horses reaping the benefits of patience and good training.
Now a very valuable filly, Fireball Miss was a $140,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery Stud for Bennett Racing and is the second foal and second winner from stakes-placed Pierro mare Femme Fireball, a half-sister to Group III winner Rock. Fireball Miss is a ½ sister to last seasons Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Femminile
Femme Fireball was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year for $900,000 to Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) /Paul Willetts Bloodstock and is now with Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and produced a filly for them last spring by Anamoe.
Congratulations to all the owners in Fireball Miss who now is a Metro Winner with a
very nice Pedigree – beautifully prepared by Ciaron Maher Racing and his Team to get the job done and win this rich Super Maiden.
