A great stalking ride by top jockey Craig Newitt saw Bennett Racing 5yo Dayan Star make it 2 in a row at Hobart on Sunday. The son of Zoustar, running under trainer Imogen Miller due to red tape regulations, jumped slowly as usual but Craig soon stoked him up to follow the well backed stablemate.
The horse was in a good rhythm throughout and made a quick move down the side to be there to challenge around the turn.
Under hard riding by Newitt, Dayan Star hit the head close to the line , eventually winning running away by a half length with 1.5 Len back to 3rd.
A very consistent gelding with 11 top 4 finishes in 18 starts, Dayan Star is certainly giving his owners, of which there are many new ones, a real run for their money each time he goes around.
In 7 starts for the Smith stable, Dayan Star has only missed a top 4 finish once, winning twice and placing 2nd twice and two thirds and a 4th. He took his overall record to 18 starts for 3 wins 4 x 2nds and 3 x 3rds and earnings over 101k.
Dayan Star is by Champion Sire Zoustar a stallion who has been very good for Bennett Racing. The 5yo is one of 8 progeny by Zoustar that have raced for 8 winners including Grand old campaigner and multiple group winner The Astrologist, Group 3 winner Zou Dancer and Listed placed metro winner Zou Sensation.

Congratulations to all owners and thankyou to Lindsey Smith and Imogen Miller for the great job they are doing with Dayan Star.
