Bennett Racing 2yo colt Jimmy Recard made to 2 wins on end after his stunning win at Flemington on Saturday. It was Jimmy’s first look at the straight 1200m at Flemington and boy what an impression he left.

The $150,000 VRC Next Gen Sprinters Series Final (1200m) for two year-olds drew a competitive field of progressive juveniles and the colt that stood out on type in the yard was the one that got the cash with I Am Invincible colt Jimmy Recard proving too good for race favourite Bacash.

Jamie Melham took the ride and said pre race she would like to get cover. Jimmy Recard jumped well and Jamie put him right behind the fav Bacash and travelling. The field of 8 all came to the inside but off the fence. As Bacash went for home at the 250m mark, Jimmy made his move with Jamie just nudging hubby Ben out of the way as the big colt started to chase the leader.

The first two put a gap on the rest and Jimmy Recard went home best to down fav Bacash by 0.25 lens. The overall time of 1m10.57s was 0.72 lens better than standard.

Most impressive was the last 400m in 22.69s a whopping 4.74lens better than standard. What really stood out here (see table below) was the way Jamie regulated his speed and he was able to record 5 consecutive 200m splits between 11.02s-11.41s. This was a terrific win by Jimmy Recard aided by a wonderful ride by Jamie Melham. Pre race Jamie said she wanted to be off the fence, hopefully trail Bacash and get him late.

Jimmy Recard is currently having a 2 week freshen up at CRC Equine, aiming for Gr1 goals in the Spring – Jimmy looks like a very progressive rising 3yo into the Spring and if he continues to improve/develop he can be a player in Black Type races. The win took Jimmy Recards career to 3 starts, 2 – 0 – 0 $113,175.

Jimmy Recard was a $350,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park for Bennett Racing Pty Ltd / Ciaron Maher Bloodstock and runs in the Bennet Racing colours.Bennett Racing also purchased the yearling full sister to Jimmy Recard at Magic Millions this year for $290,000.
