Classy Bennett Racing 3yo Stay Silent showed just how tough he is inbreaking his maiden with a determined head victory at Geelong. Having his 1st start for the powerful Ciaron Maher Stable, Stay Silent went off a short priced favourite in the 1200m Maiden. Regular Bennett Racing jock Ben Allen took the reins
Stay Silent looked to have grown and thickened pre race and also looked to improve condition/fitness wise from the run. He jumped cleanly and Ben Allen had him travelling well forward of midfield. He did get squeezed to the top of the hill and Ben moved him out 3 wide trailing Flash Alice down the hill to the turn. Stay Silent eased out in the straight to make his run. He looked to be in the finish at the 200m before Rattle’n’Roll dived through near the fence and hit the front. Stay Silent dug in and despite being at the end of his run, he got the bob in to win on the line.
Although it has taken Stay Silent until his ninth run, the horse has always shown good ability. His career started with a good close up 4th at Caulfield on debut and two starts later saw him run a terrific 3rd in the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final over 1600m at Flemington to the good filly Jenni’s Meadow. His next start saw him not quite run out the 1800m distance of the Byerley Hcp but still a good effort for 3rd. Aimed at the rich Magic Millions Maiden race in January the horse ran some okay spring starts before an indifferent ride saw him 4th in that race up at the Gold Coast ( transferred to Sunshine Coast)
Stay Silent’s overall record stands at 9 starts, 1 – 0 – 2 $73,350.
Stay Silent was a 145k purchase at the 2022 Magic Millions Sale from the Newgate Farm draft. He is the best of 2 winners for the American import Paulita. A winner of two Listed races, Paulita is a daughter of Champion sire Scat Daddy ( sire of Justify etc ) out of the 6 time stakes winner Blind Date who counted the Gr3 Virginian Oaks amongst her victories. Stay Silent is from a good International Black type family and has always shown the potential to run further with his first 3 dams all being stakeswinners and winning out to 1800m.
Congratulations to all owners and a big thankyou to Ciaron Maher and his Team for getting Stay Silent ready to win 1st up.
