Bennett Racing favourite Magnaspin won his 5th metro race with a terrific effort at Sandown on Saturday. The 5yo was last seen first up at Warnambool, running well below par but probably not enjoying the wet boggy track there.
He went to Sandown 2nd up and way out in the betting over 1400m. As a 90 rater in a BM100, he was well in with 55kgs with Jett Stanley to ride from Barrier 1. This was a beautiful ride by Jett – he got Magnaspin into a great rhythm and he was very strong late. We have seen this horse many times perform best when he can roll along on speed in a good rhythm – he then finds the line strongly.
What a huge turnaround in form on his 1st up run and a great effort by the Malua team to get him back to his best – a trial between runs and a bit of jumping during the week added to the kind barrier draw and a super ride.
He has now had 3 starts at Sandown now for a 1st up win over 1300m, a 1st up 3rd in a Group race over 1400m and now a win 2nd up over 1400m – he obviously races well here. Back in form there are lots of options coming up for this 5yr old son of Magnus.
Magnaspin took his overall record to 31 starts, 6 – 4 – 6 $843,300. He was a 60k purchase at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from Malaka Tbs draft. Magnaspin is a ¾ brother in blood to 600k earner & Gr3 winner Magnapal, 900k & Gr2 winner Rey Magnerio.
Congratulations to all owners in Magnaspin and a special thankyou to Malua Racing and their Team on another great win by Magnaspin.
