A beautifully judged ride by Declan Bates saw Bennett Racing 4yo Magnaspin win at Moonee Valley on Saturday over 2040m. Coming off a headscratcher last start at Flemington, Declan shot the 4yo out of the barriers and was soon bowling along in front. Carving out nice sectionals, Declan had the gelding in good rhythm and with a clear margin throughout. When the pressure was applied rounding for home, Magnaspin kicked and maintained the stride to the line fighting off a late challenge.

Magnaspin seems to love the Moonee Valley track with 4starts there yielding 2 wins and a 3rd. The win took Magnaspins overall record to 19 starts – 4 wins : 4 x 2nds : 4 x 3rds and prizemoney:$415,950. A terrific return for his owners with 13 top 4 finishes in only 19 starts.

An ultra consistent 4yo, Magnaspin still has his career ahead of him and with the way he is progressing, he could get to Blacktype class over ground this prep.

Magnaspin was a 60k purchase from the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale from great vendors Maluka Tbs. He is the only produce to race from the Hard Spun mare Luxaspin. Luxaspin is a ½ sister to the near 600k earning multiple Group winner Magnapal who like Magnaspin is a son of the great Victorian sire Magnus. In fact Magnaspin and Magnapal are in fact ¾ brothers inblood.

Terrific effort by Leon & Troy Corstens and their Team to have Magnaspin ready to bounce back from his last start. Well done to the big group of owners who attended Saturday’s race enjoying the thrill of Magnaspin’s second win at the Valley and to all other owners in the boy.

A young stayer horse who is honest as the day and certainly on the way up.
