Bennet Racing New Zealand import PRINCEOFCAMBRIDGE registered his 1st Australian win, at his 4th start here, with a bold front running exhibition under Jamie Mott at Pakenham Thursday night.
The Danny O’Brien trained 3yo found trouble when 2nd in his Australian debut at Geelong, had a good look and wobbled in the straight at Pakenham for 3rd then struggled around the tight Kyneton track when a close 2nd last start.
He was entered to run earlier in the week but a track mishap saw him wait until later in the week.
Fired out of his widest barrier by Jamie, PRINCEOFCAMBRIDGE found a good rhythm early in the race and went clear for 800m unchallenged. The favourite made a quick dash mid race to sit outside him but after having such an easy time in front PRINCEOFCAMBRIDGE just accelerated in the run home winning by a widening 3Len.
The way he lengthened his stride in the run home showed he well may excel over more ground, sentiments echoed by Jamie Mott post race.
A son of Champion Singapore sprinter Super Easy, PRINCEOFCAMBRIDGE dam is a daughter of Redoutes Choice’s Hong Kong Group winner Lucky Unicorn. Although his 1st 2 dams are essentially sprinter/miler bred the secret to staying potential may lay in his next 3 dams being by Montjeu, Zabeel and Gold & Ivory all stamina influences in New Zealand.
PRINCEOFCAMBRIDGE is also a direct descendant of Sir Patrick Hogan’s legendary BLUE HEN mare EIGHT CARAT who is his 5th dam no less. EIGHT CARAT left 5 GROUP 1 winners including the Champion OCTAGONAL, top sire KAAPSTAD and the untapped freakish MOUWAD. Her Gr1 winning daughter OUR MARQUIS left the hugely talented Gr1 winner SHOWER OF ROSES for Gai and another Gr1 winning daughter OUR DIAMOND LOVER left Lee Freedman’s Gr1 AJC Derby winner Don Eduardo and twice Gr1 winner TRISTALOVE, herself the dam of Gr1 Spring Champion Stks winner VIKING RULER and 3 other stakeswinners. WOW what a huge family with so many branches splintering off and producing top class stakes horses like DANEWIN, COMMANDS, SHOOTING TO WIN and his brother top sire DEEP FIELD and down to Gr1 Manikato Stks winner JONKER. It’s an endless list.
PRINCEOFCAMBRIDGE took his overall record to 9 starts 2 wins 2 2nds 2 3rds over 47k in prize money.

Thankyou to Danny O’Brien and his Team and also to the owners who had the faith to invest in this promising potential stayer.
