What an effort by Bennett Racing 4yo mare KATERING who registered her 2nd win at Bendigo on Tuesday with a demolition job winning easily by 3.3L. A great ride by inform jockey Dean Holland saw the daughter of Sebring jump well, get into a good rhythm, settle midfield and come to the outside at the top of the straight. When she balanced up, Katering unleashed a withering finish and she put the field away very quickly. A very impressive performance and she seemed to relish dropping back to the 1500m distance.
Katering ran a personal best here with an emphatic win and completely dominated running the 1500m in a good time of 1m31.73s just 2.62s outside the track record – clearly on times it was the performance of the day. Tom has highlighted a mare’s race on the last day of the Warrnambool carnival for her next run and then maybe she will be given a chance to tackle a mares race in town.
A testament to Tom Dabernig’s training, KATERING was having her 6th run this prep, having resumed with a win over 1400m at Warrnambool on the 31st December. Her next runs have been well spaced which have resulted in close-up 2nds at Hamilton, Werribee and Ballarat before her last start when she failed to run the 1700m right out at Warrnambool finishing 3rd.
The win took KATERING record to 8 starts for 2 wins 3 seconds and 2 thirds with earnings approaching 60k. A great effort by the mare to miss a top 3 finish only once in her career and on that occasion she finished 4th back in April last year at Terang. After that run she required surgery to remove fetlock chips.
KATERING is a sister to the Gr3 placed Sebrakate and a 1/2 sister to Listed pl Quartto Katie. She is one of ten winners from the former smart stakeswinning Zeditave mare Kakakakatie. From the family of Gr1 winners Bonanova, Telesto and Fraternity, KATERING 4th dam Great Klaire is a 1/2 sister to Cambridge Studs Blue Hen mare Eight Carat.
A 120k purchase from the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale from the Baramul Stud draft, KATERING races for a large group of Bennett Racing owners along with her breeder Gerry Harvey who stayed in the ownership.
Congratulations to all owners and Thankyou to Tom Dabernig and his Team for a terrific training effort with Katering.
