What a great tough win by this 3yo Dissident filly getting the job done over an unsuitable distance and an unorthodox ride by Jaden Lloyd. At her previous start the filly had missed the kick by 3 lens but this time the filly jumped well but was out of her comfort zone, pushing forward just off the pace in what looked a busy ride. To the filly’s credit she knuckled down when headed to be strongest on the line winning by a bare margin. At only her 3rd start Defiant Diva, who flew for 2nd at her debut then was unlucky after missing the start in the rich Magic Millions Maiden, delivered with a win full of merit and promise to come. At this stage she may run again at the Gold Coast with a shot at blacktype races in Brisbane on the cards. Well done to Leon & Troy Corstens and to all owners who took the gamble to send the filly up to QLD.
Footnote: Newsreader the Press Statement filly who bolted in the Magic Millions Maiden was an easy winner at Warwick Farm on 10/2. Trainer John O’Shea has a very high opinion of the filly and some stakes goals as targets.
The win of Defiant Diva was yet another triumph for Bennett Racing with their current crop of 3yo’s. This crop include smart last start Flemington winner Zou Dancer who resumes in the Gr3 Vanity Stks next weekend at Flemington, brilliant debut winner Maid Of Iron who is heading towards the Gr1 Australian Oaks, smart debut winner and metro placed Mona Dream aso heading towards blacktype racing in Adelaide and the unbeaten debut winner Dewhurst who has been held in high regard by Archie Alexander.
The filly was the 5th individual winner from 9 runners from this crop along with Apache Star and My Brilliant Choix who both placed on debut. Incidentally there is just Vancouver filly Canadian Gold left to race from this crop and she has shown very good ability.
