Bennett Racing 3yo Press Statement filly notched up her 2nd win in 7 starts when Celine Gaudray pushed her a gap to win at Cranbourne on Thursday night. The filly was coming off 2 unplaced Efforts since winning at Cranbourne over 1000m 1st up back on the 12th of January. The Hayes brothers pulled off a masterful stroke when deciding to bring the speedy filly back to 1000m again.
Celine Gaudray took the ride and we hoped for a more positive ride. She jumped well but quickly drifted back to 2nd last detached from the field some 6 lens off them. Celine didn’t panic and got her into a rhythm and let her creep forward towards the leading pack. She was still 3 lens off them on turning and desperate to get a run. A gap opened and the rocket pushed underneath the giant Fallen who dwarfed our girl as she made her run with 150m to go. The field was bunched in the drive to the line but then Lady Cederberg went – BANG and accelerated quickly to win by a long head. A private purchase for Bennett Racing Lady Cederberg took her overall record to 7 starts 2 wins 1 2nds 1 3rd and prizemoney over 67k.
What a huge thrill for the owners of this gutsy pocket rocket. For as printer who loves the 1000m (especially at Cranbourne) – she has no pace early but by gee she can let rip and Celine commented on her terrific turn of foot when clear. She loves the 1000m and likes to be ridden cold – looks a good recipe going forward and she looks to have more wins in store based on this effort. A 3yo filly coming from 2nd last against the older horses is a big effort.
Fantastic win – congrats to all the owners and lets hope we see many more. Thankyou to the Hayes Brother and all the Team at Lindsay Park for bringing the filly back in distance and getting the win.
