A brilliant ride from champion jockey Damian Oliver saw Maid Of Iron finish hard to get up and win at Moonee Valley on Friday night. Having won 2nd up this campaign, the mare had been a victim of circumstances and after a very unlucky run on Oaks day Maid Of Iron looked a little flat at Sandown a few weeks ago. Oliver feeling the mare may be suspect over 2050m at The Valley elected to ride her back in the 3 wide lane with cover and unleashed a powerful run to the line to get up.
The Dundeel 4yo mare was all the talk earlier this year winning on debut and catching everyone’s attention. Set for a Gr1 SA Oaks campaign it all came a little soon for the then filly. Now a 3 time winner and more importantly a Metropolitan winner Maid Of Iron may get her chance for valuable Blacktype in the Listed Lord Stks 1800m on New Years Day.
An 82.5k purchase from magic Millions maid Of Iron is a daughter of the stakes placed Encosta De Lago mare Iron Lace.
Maid Of Iron becomes Bennettt Racing’s 3rd individual Metro winner this season.
Incredibly she is a part of the 100% strike rate of winners purchased from the Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale and now also adds to the 50% metropolitan winner strike rate from magic Millions also.
