A great front running ride saw Bennett Racing 4yo Starwisp record his 2nd win on Monday at Terang. The big boy served notice with a slashing first up run at Terang on 19th December. Stepping out to the 1600m 2nd up, Lachie King followed instructions to a tee and got the boy out and running from the barrier. The horse was very well rated by Lachie out in front and was even able to give him a bit of a breather though the middle stages. On straightening, Starwisp lengthened and shot a few lengths clear and was full of running. He was strong through the line and he was never going to get beaten. The time was a solid gallop at 1m37.14s which was 0.78 lens outside standard time.
Starwisp loves to roll along unchallenged and then says catch me if you can. Looks like 2000m and maybe beyond will be right in his range this prep and when these up and coming middle distance horses hit form – they can progress through the grades quickly.
Its well documented that it took Starwisp 7 starts to record his 1st placing and then break his maiden at start number 8 over 1590m. Some suggested schooling over jumps certainly switched him on, so much in fact in his last 5 starts he has been a winner twice, 2nd, 3rd and 4th
The win took Starwips overall record to 11 starts, 2 – 1 – 1 $39,335 in prizemoney with the promise of more to come as he stretches out further.
A 100k purchase from the 2021 MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale Starwisp is a son of Champion sire Zoustar and the Gr2 winning Commands mare Girl In Flight. Also 2nd in the GR2 Matriarch & Sunline Stks Girl In Flight won from 1300 to 1800m. She is from an imported daughter of Champion Sire Machiavellian who is a sister to the Listed winner Queen Catherine – dam of Gr1 Italian Oaks pl Lady Catherine and also a sister to the dam of 2400m Gr1 winner Prince Of Gibraltar etc. There is a bit of stoutness in the family which may give reason to why Starwisp is showing all indications that he could get a lot further than 1600m.
Congratulations to all owners in Starwisp and thankyou to Leon & Troy Corstens and their Team for a great result.
