Bennett Racing 4yo mare The Right Page made light work of winning her maiden at Wodonga on Tuesday. The daughter of Pierro was having her 4th race start after placing at two of her previous three starts at Geelong and Wangaratta. The mare certainly relished the stretch out in trip from1760m to 2050m and jockey Will Price felt she could stretch out further after the race.
The Right Page made her debut in February ’25 over 1600m at Benalla. A luckless trip did however show she had plenty of guts and determination and she made her 2nd start at Wangarratta a month later with an on pace effort to finish a very close 2nd. At her third start at Geelong the mare led but was overhauled in the straight for 3rd before Tuesday’s bold front running effort to win.
At Wodonga she jumped sweetly for Will Price and easily crossed over and took up the running. The Right Page was pressured a little from the 1600m to the 600m before she started to kick for home. With her main danger having a sweet run behind, soon after straightening it moved out to challenge and drew level with The Right Page. The daughter of Pierro was having none of it and dug deeper to forge away and win handsomely by 1.75lens.
The overall time of 2m05.23s was a whopping 10.26 lens better than the standard time – almost 2 secs. In fact the standard time for all classes over 2050m on a Good track here at Wodonga is 2m06.44s.
Terrific win by The Right Page and a fantastic effort by Dom Sutton and his team to break the ice with the 1st winner for Bennett Racing. Dom has done a great job getting this slow maturing girl going after 2 other trainers had no real opinion of her. She should have won 2 starts back and the form from her last run is now very strong – the 2nd horse bolted in by 6 lens at Cranbourne on Friday.
The Right page took her overall career to 4 starts, 1 – 1 – 1 $23,100.
She was a 200k purchase from the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. By Champion racehorse and sire Pierro, she is a daughter of the Listed Canberra Cup winner Fill The Page and a ½ sister to Fun Fact Gr3 winner with earnings close to 1 Mil and the stakesplaced Tamasa.
Congatulations to all owners and a special thankyou to Dom Sutton and his Team for not only giving the mare a go but delivering a win at her 4th start.
