WOW this horse is certainly going places!
Another outstanding performance by Bennett Racing’s 4yo import Fawkner Park as he stepped up to 2400m in a BM 78 at Rosehill on Saturday. Drawn widest in the outside barrier, Fawkner Park jumped well but was restrained to the back of the field by apprentice Dylan Gibbons who Annabel decided to use his claim to bring the gelding’s weight back to 60kg.
Fawkner Park got up on to the bit as Dylan moved him over to the two wide lane and eventually the gelding relaxed underneath him. Not wanting to be present with a wall in front of him, Dylan took off down the side and entering the home turn, Fawkner Park was within reach. When Dylan pushed the button on straightening, Fawkner Park exploded and unleashed a powerful finishing burst and soon after put the race beyond doubt winning running away and even easing down near the line.
What a performance and what a turn of foot this horse processes! And what a winning constitution he owns. It’s hard enough to win a race let alone 5 on the trot just as he has. And he is not a one trick pony with each of his Australian wins being won in different styles from near the lead to sitting well back.
This was another huge step forward for Fawner Park who is now 4 from 4 in Australia and took his overall earnings to over $200k of which nearly 200k has come from his 4 Australian starts. His overall record now stands as 7 starts for 5 wins and a 3rd. A special thankyou to Stuart Boman, Bennett Racing’s International agent, who identified the horse at last year’s Tattersalls Horses In Training Sale. Fawkner Park was purchased for 120k guineas and made his way out to Australia not long after.
Fawkner Park owns a pedigree full of major staying influences and his sire is the Irish bred Zoffany, who actually shuttled here to Australia with his best being the very honest Hi Stranger. There have however been quite a few successful imports by the sire including Carzoff winner of the Gr3 Newcastle Cup & LR Wyong Cup, Ventura Storm winner of the Gr2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup and Al Galayel winner of the Gr3 JRA Cup. Zoffany was by the Champion Sire Dansili. Dansili has proven to be a superior sire of stayers and also sired over 20 Gr1 winners worldwide. He also has been very well represented here in Australia by the following successful imports. 3 time Gr1 winner Foreteller who included the Ranvet Stks– Turnbull Stks – Maykybe Diva Stks amoungst his many wins, Gr1 Sydney Cup winner Grand Marshall, Gr3 Queens Cup winner Dandino, Gr3 Newcastle Cup winner Disclaimer, LR Scone & Cranbourne Cup winner Dr Drill, gr3 Tatts Cup winner Index Linked, Gr3 Chairmans Cup winner Permit, Gr2 Emancipation Stks winner Promise Of Success, LR Sandown Cup winner Renew, LR MVRC Night Cup winner Starcaster, Gr2 SAJC Queen Of The South winner Trick Of Light are all but of few.
A ½ brother to the Gr2 Herbert Power Stks winner Saracen Knight (IRE) Fawkner Parks dam Za’hara was by the Champion racehorse and Gr1 Breeders Cup Classic 2000m winner Ravens Pass best known here as the sire of the Gr2 Chairman’s Hcp winner Big Duke (IRE). The next dam was by the 6 time Gr1 winning Champion Singspiel. A Champion over distances from 2000m to 2400m Singspiel finest victories came in the Dubai World Cup, the Japan Cup and the Coronation Stks. From his numerous visits to Australia, Singspiel sired the very good Gr1 winner Rewaaya and group winners A Country Girl, Belmonte, Operetta Lass and Pavalova amongst others. But Singspiels crowning glory would be the Champion Gr1 winners Dar Re Mai, Solow and Moon Ballad.
Clearly a talented young horse with such a bright future ahead of him and giving his connections such a thrill as his career takes off.
