Bennett Racing 4yo Magnaspin bellied a betting drift to score impressively 1st up at Sandown on Wednesday. The son of Magnus was afforded a well timed ride by Carleen Hefal who settled the big boy one out one back sweetly riding the speed. There was little change throughout the race with the moderate tempo set out in front. With 300 to go Carleen couldn’t hold Magnaspin any longer and let him slide up 3 wide to challenge. The leader gave a good kick but the big boy showed so much determination and held a head advantage to the line.
The was a really impressive performance by Magnaspin who will derive great benefit
from the race in both fitness and the coat. He won strongly over 2040m at Moonee
Valley last prep and will be well suited around that sort of distance again.
The time of 1m18.31s for the 1300m was 2.4 lens better than Standard Time.
Considering the moderate tempo early, this was a good clip. The last 400m was run
in 22.33s which was 6.54 lens better than standard for that section.
What a big win by this son of Magnus who continues to be a great source
of enjoyment for his owners. Right from his 1st start, he showed good ability and
been very consistent and productive.
From 15 career starts, he has now won 3 with 7 other tops 3 finishes and over
$315K in prize money.
As a 4yo, he still has his career ahead of him and with the way he is progressing, he
could get to Blacktype class over ground this prep.
Magnaspin was a 60k purchase from the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale from great vendors Maluka Tbs. He is the only produce to race from the Hard Spun mare Luxaspin. Luxaspin is a ½ sister to the near 600k earning multiple Group winner Magnapal who like Magnaspin is a son of the great Victorian sire Magnus. In fact Magnaspin and Magnapal are in fact ¾ brothers in blood.
A terrific effort by Leon & Troy Corstens and their Team to have Magnaspin ready to win 1st up and a big congratulations to all owners.
A young stayer horse who is honest as the day and certainly on the way up.
